If you have a Mr-Glass window that needs new installation work in Jacksonville, we stock the compatible parts and can typically complete the job in a single visit. Most Mr-Glass window installation projects in Jacksonville run between $380 and $1,150 per opening, depending on the frame condition, glass package, and whether we’re replacing the sash, the balance system, or the full unit. Most Jacksonville homeowners discover the problem the same way: a window that suddenly won’t stay up, a sash that tilts without warning, or a room that’s noticeably warmer than the one next to it. By the time you notice, the part has usually been failing quietly for months.
We’re an independent Jacksonville window and door company, not affiliated with Mr-Glass directly, but we work with their product lines constantly. The name on the window tells us a lot, but the frame’s condition tells us more. In Jacksonville’s humidity and salt air, even well-made hardware gives out eventually.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To
Mr-Glass manufactures several window series, and the installation parts are not interchangeable across all of them. The most common lines we service in Jacksonville are the single-hung and horizontal slider units, both of which use a spiral balance system or a block-and-tackle balance depending on the year. If the window was made before 2012, it’s more likely to have a spiral balance. If it’s newer, the block-and-tackle is more common. The difference matters, because installing the wrong balance type means the window either won’t hold position or will shoot up too fast.
To identify your part, check the sticker on the frame edge or the top sash. It usually lists the series name and a four-digit code. If the sticker is gone (we see this constantly thanks to Florida sun fading), we measure the visible glass and the sash weight channel. Mr-Glass uses a non-standard 3/4-inch balance channel on many of their sliders, which means generic 5/8-inch balances from a hardware store will not seat correctly. That’s the kind of detail we catch before we write the estimate, not after we’ve started.
For Mr-Glass specifically, we recommend OEM parts when they’re available and reasonably priced. Their tilt latches and pivot bars are worth staying OEM on, because the tolerances on aftermarket versions tend to be a hair off, and a hair off on a tilt latch means a window that pops loose. For balance systems, a quality aftermarket equivalent is often just as durable and costs 20 to 30 percent less. We’ll show you both options and the price difference in writing before we order anything. We do the same for PGT, CGI, and CWS windows, but this page is focused on Mr-Glass because that’s what you’re researching right now.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Window Installation Is Failing
- Window drops when you let go. This is almost always a failed balance system. The spring or tension inside has worn out, and now the full weight of the sash is on your hands alone. It won’t fix itself, and forcing it closed will wear out the pivot bar next.
- Sash tilts inward without you pressing the tilt latches. The tilt latches or pivot bars have worn grooves into each other. In salt-exposed Jacksonville neighborhoods like San Marco or Ortega, the aluminum pivot bars corrode faster than they do inland, and that corrosion is usually what fails first.
- You feel air moving around the window even when it’s closed. The weatherstripping has compressed or the frame has shifted. This shows up on the west-facing elevations most, where afternoon heat works the vinyl until it relaxes just enough to break the seal.
- Condensation building between the glass panes. That’s a failed seal on the insulated glass unit. In Florida, the daytime heat pushes moisture into the airspace, and at night it condenses. Once fog shows up between panes, no cleaning fixes it; the glass needs replacement.
- The window groans or binds when you slide it. Dirt and salt buildup in the track is the usual cause, especially near the beach or the river. If left alone, the debris grinds the roller or balance shoe down until it cracks.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Mr-Glass window installation parts and labor in Jacksonville, here’s what we typically quote:
| Job Type | Typical Price Range (Parts + Labor) |
|---|---|
| Balance system replacement (per window) | $180 – $320 |
| Tilt latch and pivot bar replacement (per window) | $140 – $260 |
| Insulated glass unit replacement (per window) | $380 – $750 |
| Full sash replacement including hardware | $520 – $1,150 |
Every quote from us is written out line by line before we start, so you know exactly what the parts cost and exactly what the labor costs. The range depends on whether we’re rebuilding an existing Mr-Glass sash or swapping in a new unit, plus the glass package. Low-E options and impact-rated glass land on the higher end. Our labor includes removing the old hardware, cleaning the track, reinstalling and testing the window, and a photo of the clean-up before we walk out. The workmanship is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, we make it right. No debate, no countdown.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things on your own: look for the sticker on the frame edge, take a photo of any cracked or corroded hardware, and measure the visible glass. That information helps us quote accurately over the phone. What you should not do is open up a balance system or try to remove a sash without releasing the tension properly. Those springs hold real force. If a spiral balance or block-and-tackle spring lets go while it’s misaligned, it can take a chunk of your hand with it.
We see that kind of injury less than we used to, but we still see it. If your Mr-Glass window is fighting you, set it down gently and call us at (904) 914-3691. The estimate is free, and you’ll get a written price before any work starts. Keith Yamada grew up in Los Angeles and studied glazing systems at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and he’s spent more than two decades working on windows and doors, including the last several years serving Jacksonville neighborhoods from Avondale to the newer builds near Town Center. We’ve done careful retrofits on older bungalows along the St. Johns River where the salt air reminds you why frame material matters. His rule, which the whole crew follows, is measure twice and explain every line item before the contract is signed. More light in, less worry out.
FAQs
A properly installed Mr-Glass window with regular track cleaning should last 15 to 20 years in Jacksonville before major hardware replacement. The balance systems tend to be the first thing to go, usually around the 10 to 14 year mark, and coastal exposure to salt air shortens that lifespan compared to homes further inland near Mandarin or Baymeadows.
In most cases, no. Once a balance spring loses tension or a pivot bar shears, the part is done. We can sometimes clean and re-lubricate a track to fix binding, but if the issue is a broken part, replacing it is the only fix that holds. Call (904) 914-3691 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you straight whether it’s a maintenance issue or a replacement job.
A single-window balance or latch replacement usually takes 45 to 90 minutes on site once the part is in hand. If we’re replacing glass or a full sash, plan on two to three hours for the first window. Most jobs are done the same visit.
We keep the most common Mr-Glass balance shoes, tilt latches, and pivot bars stocked on the truck, especially the 3/4-inch channel balances their sliders use. Uncommon or model-specific parts may require an order, which usually adds a few days. Call (904) 914-3691 with your window’s details and we’ll confirm what we have before scheduling.
If your Mr-Glass window needs attention in Jacksonville, call us at (904) 914-3691. We’ll come out, measure twice, write you a clear price, and leave your home cleaner than we found it. The estimate is free, and you’ll never see a bigger number at the end than the one you approved at the start.
